Where to Look?

It can be difficult to know where to look first in York Minster Chapter House. Do you enjoy the stained glass windows, admire the intricately tiled floor (here), photograph that fabulous Gothic domed roof (here)? Maybe you have come in specially to see the pictures currently on show, an exhibition call Liminal Space by Rachael Burnett. Or maybe to see the carvings done by the Master masons between 1270-80 that adorn the walls. For me it is the carvings, come by tomorrow to see one of my favourites.

  1. Lovely memories of being there in 2009...I took so many photos but it is not easy to really capture that amazing Minster with a camera! I remember the Chapter House and the carvings on the walls, and the beautiful tiled floors, and the amazing ceiling with the lamb in the very center on a medalion. We even got to hear Evensong sung there one evening, and sat in the Choir. I wish I didn't live so far away! California is a long way from England.

    1. Glad you took away happy memories of the Minster Sara, it is a very special building. You are right it is difficult to capture with a camera because as well as the look of it there are all the different sounds, and the changing light, and it even has it's own smell! It will be a regular feature on the blog.

  2. I passed by the minster yesterday, it truly is a beautiful building. The one memory I would take above all the other was the chimes playing tunes, though in truth I have yet to actually enter the minster being busy looking at some of the other old churches.
