George Leeman whose statue you can see on the right was a successful local lawyer and politician. He eventually became chairman of the North Eastern Railway company. His contributions to the city were recognised by this statue of him carved by the York sculptor GW Milburn
and paid for by public subscription.Wonder what he would have thought of the 'bendy' buses on York's narrow streets?
