Community Garden

On a patch of waste ground near the city walls I came across this community garden already planted up with herbs and salad plants for the summer.

Chainsaw Massacre!

These logs have been left scattered around the garden at Goddards as a winter refuge for insects and other small scurrying creatures.

Treasurer's garden

For my money the most beautiful house in York, the Treasurer's House, happened to have the garden gates open as I passed by recently. Originally the home of York Minster Treasurer it sits next to the Minster giving stunning views from the garden. It does however have a slightly dodgy line in garden statuary, part of the collection of former owner Frank Green I suspect. He is described on the National Trust website as an eccentric bachelor with a very particular sense of taste and style! Close up statue picture tomorrow!!

New Clothes for Summer

This little tree, surrounded by dogwood stems, was the star performer in a city centre garden I visited recently, the beautiful peeling bark outshining the early flowers in bloom.

Front Garden

This piece of stone is in a terraced house front garden, sheltered behind metal railings. I have walked past many times without really looking at it, this time I stopped and turned back to look properly, and from this angle saw something other than just a big rock amongst plants.

Winter Sunshine

Christmas morning we went for walk before lunch and passed by this terrace house with a Winter Jasmine in flower in the front garden. It was a pretty dull day weather wise but this patch of colour brightened up our morning stroll.
