Reflections on the Past

The keep of Helmsley castle reflected back in the glass of the visitors centre. This fairly recently constructed building (the visitors centre that is!) does make every effort to blend into the landscape.

King of the Castle

One bird that can almost always be found on old ruins is the jackdaw. This jaunty blue eyed jackdaw is king of Helmsley castle.

Blade Runners

Still at Helmsley Castle these sculptures stand outside the main castle entrance. They show the three main weapons used by fighting forces that would have defended the castle before the advent of firearms. Somehow they remind me more of Blade Runner than Braveheart.
