Quacks can be found on Grape lane in the centre of York. The unusual name is derived from a combination of it's previous name, Queen Anne Copy Shop (QACS) plus the current owners fondness for Ducks. From 18th century printing presses to digital copying, Quacks does what it says on the sign!

Ballet Girls

Poetry, yes, I also enjoy a wide range of music including opera, I will go along and see almost anything at the theatre, love Shakespeare, modern art, traditional galleries, you name it I will turn up. Ballet however leaves me cold, not interested, not even slightly curious, tried it once but fell asleep (watching not performing).
So why on earth do I want to read this book? I spotted it in the shop window, shop was closed, I felt almost annoyed. Then I remembered, I love old books, phew that was close I thought I was turning into a balletomane....................

Sign of the times 1

This was a favourite haunt that sadly closed down just over a year ago. As you can see from the window they did try to diversify but to no avail. Although I shopped in here I also bought books on line. Do you still buy new books from a real rather than a virtual shop?
A real sign of the times is that no business has started up on this site since.

Another Fine Mess

Looks like Stan Laurel approves of the selection of winter flowers for sale outside this florists shop in Bootham.

Window Dressing

This shop window display of mushrooms and various articles of Chinese origin caught my eye. A number of establishments selling herbal remedies have appeared in York in recent years. This shop is in Gillygate.

Bookshop Window

Anyone else find a window display like this impossible to resist? Minster Gate bookshop has three floors of second-hand and antiquarian books and prints for sale.
