Black Swan Black Cat
This is a relatively new addition to the cats of York and stands out well against the white background of the Black Swan pub. Black Swans are not native to the UK, and I have always wondered why so many pubs have this name. One suggestion is that as the Black Swan is a rare bird a pub of this name may be of rare (exceptional) quality. Locally this pub is known as the 'Mucky Duck' and is certainly worth a visit if you enjoy folk music.

I am delighted to have found this blog, as a born and bred 'Yorkie' I will look forward to your daily photos. best wishes Freda
ReplyDeleteI love the cat! I should put one up on my place. Nice looking pub too.
ReplyDeleteHi Freda, always good to hear from another Yorkie, enjoy the pics.
ReplyDeleteI like the building itself. I've always thought of that as Tudor architecture, am I right? My house in California was built in 1924 and imitates those exterior beams. They call it "Tudor revival."
ReplyDeleteRedPat - you should go for the cat - running across the roof, climbing a wall, sitting on a windowsill, the choice is yours!
ReplyDeletePetrea, like you I think of that black & white style as Tudor but I am no expert, the Black Swan was built in 1417 which is pre Tudor. I have heard it described as Magpie Tudor which is nice way of putting it I think.
