Behind Bars
Not all York cats are made from plaster or wood, this handsome boy was sitting very neatly on the wall as as I passed by this week.

F is for Feline
This is my favourite York Cat. He is over 90 years old and showing his age, but still looks every inch the fearsome ginger tomcat. For more information on York Cats see here.

Cat amongst the pigeons
You will be used to seeing the odd cat climbing around a York building by now. This is a variation on the theme as both the Cat & the Pigeon on this city centre roof are models. Not sure why the netting is there as these two are not going anywhere!

Go away, I'm busy!
After giving me a very hard stare this cat made it quite clear I was surplus to requirements by turning her back and pointedly ignoring me. When I persisted in pointing my camera her way she pretended to have spotted something interesting in the distance and stalked off. I followed her around the gravestone only to find she had completely vanished from sight; a ghost cat perhaps!

Cat at No 25
York is famous for cats on buildings, they can be found running up walls, sat on window ledges or walking 'Tall Tail' across roof tops. This black cat is stalking birds along the ledge above No 25.

Anyone home?
I spotted this black cat waiting patiently to be let inside early one morning, presumably after a night out on the tiles. I got one quick shot before she noticed me and trotted over to be made a fuss of.

Let Sleeping Cats
Sometimes, when the first really warm day of the year comes along, you just got to get outside and enjoy it.

Black Swan Black Cat
This is a relatively new addition to the cats of York and stands out well against the white background of the Black Swan pub. Black Swans are not native to the UK, and I have always wondered why so many pubs have this name. One suggestion is that as the Black Swan is a rare bird a pub of this name may be of rare (exceptional) quality. Locally this pub is known as the 'Mucky Duck' and is certainly worth a visit if you enjoy folk music.

Pigeon's Revenge
This cat has suffered the indignity of being bombed from above by birds perched on a ledge. If he doesn’t get a good clean soon he will not be a black cat for much longer. This bespattered feline can be found climbing up a building in the Shambles.

White Cat
York has between 20-30 cats located on building in and around the city. They may have originally been intended to scare away pigeons from roosting on ledges but now are purely decorative. Anyone planning a trip to York and wishing to follow the cat trail can find more information at: catsinyork
This white cat, seemingly gazing at its reflection in the lantern, can be found on a building in Gillygate.
