Hatching

Lots of eggs are hatching around here at present. Hopefully none are producing baby dragons! This youngster can be found close by York Minster.

N is for Not Quite Finished Yet

As work continues on the 5 year restoration of the great East Window of the Minster much of the stonework is also being replaced. The Stonemasons have set up shop (well lodge actually) close to the window and their tools and materials are a source of interest to most passers-by, even when they are not working. The little Bichon out for a walk seems much more interested in what I am doing however!

Front Garden

This piece of stone is in a terraced house front garden, sheltered behind metal railings. I have walked past many times without really looking at it, this time I stopped and turned back to look properly, and from this angle saw something other than just a big rock amongst plants.

Stone Festival Bench

In 2000 a group of 70 stone carvers came together to craft this bench which stands in Dean’s Park next to York Minster. It is octagonal in shape and is covered with a multitude of grotesque figures. In the background is all that remains of the original Archbishops Palace. It is now the home of the Minster Library and a War Memorial to the 2nd Division raised in Portugal at Albuera 18^th June 1809.

The bench is built around a sycamore tree, the crab apples are from a nearby tree.
