Driver for a Fiver!

This is Murton Park a station on the Derwent Valley Light Railway. Opened in 1913 the railway ran from Layerthorpe station in York to Cliffe Common near Selby. There is half a mile of track left and occasionally there is the opportunity to pay £5 and have a go at driving one of the diesel shunters.

Back to the Future

This photo that I took back in October is my offering for Photo of the Year from Ginnels Gates and Ghosts as it garnered a number of comments. I also thought it would be a good chance to update you with how the building is progressing now in tomorrows post.

A Reminder of Summer

A steam train runs between Scarborough and York during the summer months. It stops to take on water here at Bootham Park Hospital as York Station does not have the ability to service steam trains any more. In the late 19^th century the resident engineer for the Scarborough line was one Alfred Dickens, he was often visited in York by his elder brother Charles.
