Motor Cycle Traps

Lot of opportunity to take short cuts down the back lanes on your bike in York. This arrangement of bars is designed to stop motorcycles speeding down here. Pedal cyclists have to ride between the two lower bars whilst pushchair and wheelchair access is through the chicane.

Longest Snicket

 

I decided  to take a walk down the long snicket from Shipton Road to the Museum Gardens recently. The route runs for around a mile through the back lanes and although I often walk part of it, it has been many years since I walked the length of it. It took me a few minutes to find the start which is near Clifton Parish Church, fancy coming along for a stroll?

Hidden in full view

I suspect many locals would struggle to recall seeing this ginnel. It can be found on Coney Street, arguably York's busiest thoroughfare and is called Judges Court. It also has it's own ghost which announces it's presence by the sound of a broken spur jangling along the  ground. I do not know of anyone who has heard the sound and stopped long enough to see what the wearer of the spur looks like!
