Rivers up

Well as we say in these parts 'Rivers up'. Normally you can walk down here but, several days of heavy rain have arrived in York via the River Ouse and the streets around the river are flooded once more. The sign 'Plonkers' refers to a wine bar by the way, not anyone attempting to drive down here......

  1. Wow - I like that sign with the car driving off the edge. Be careful out there.

  2. I've been complaining about our dry weather but this is a bit much. You don't sound concerned; does this happen often?

    1. Every couple of years or so, new flood defences in 2000 helped considerably. However after 2 dry years it has rained pretty constantly and we have had 3 floods so far this year. Most people in the city are inconvienienced at worst but I do feel sorry for the small number whose homes and businesses are repeatedly flooded.

  3. I had thought that the Aire here in Leeds was high, but not compared to your bit of the Ouse.
